As of the moment, Cyberpunk 2077 continues to be a mess. It’s not for the lack of effort though. CDPR has been vocal about all the steps that they’ve taken to help make Cyberpunk 2077 more playable, especially on last-gen consoles - the PS4 and Xbox One. However, as things stand, CDPR still has a long way to go with Cyberpunk 2077. With that said, CD Projekt Red, otherwise affectionately referred to by their many fans as CDPR, is turning this expensive mistake into a learning opportunity. According to a recent statement, CDPR will no longer focus all its efforts on one project at a time. Instead, the Polish video game development studio promised that they’ll grow their teams, create transferable tech, and even acquire an entirely new studio if necessary. All of this they’ll do to make sure that the game can work on two triple-A games in parallel.

In particular, how CDPR plans on splitting its time working on their two main franchises, the Witcher and Cyberpunk. At the core of this strategy is how they will design the RED engine so that it’s capable of adapting to both titles. Essentially, what this will mean is that both games will use the same engine. This will effectively give each game’s respective development teams enough time to flesh out each title. At the same time, CDPR also promises that they will utilize “cross-functional teams” and “cross-project experts” going forward. The said teams will reportedly be composed of individuals who will have a hand in working on both projects. They’ll offer support, as well as advice, where and when it’s needed the most. If all goes well, CDPR promises that the production of their next two AAA titles in 2022 will proceed as planned. CDPR also discussed plenty of things in their update. The developers talked about how their goals of creating “revolutionary story-driven RPGs” and becoming one of the top three video game developers in the world, among others.

What’s the Current State of Cyberpunk 2077?

The bad news here is that Cyberpunk 2077 is still not the game CDPR promised it was. The good news is that it’s getting there. Thanks to their efforts, Cyberpunk 2077 is slowly becoming a better game by the day. Although the jury is still out if it has turned its fortunes around, Cyberpunk 2077 has as good of a chance as any game that has survived disastrous launches before. Only time will tell if and when it will improve enough for Sony to list it back on the PlayStation Store again.
